New Research

Here is a Summary of Information obtained from my own research that, so far as I am aware, has never been published previously on the web.

Some of this has been unearthed from Witness Statements (Depositions) that were never introduced into evidence by the Prosecution; while others have been obtained from files in The National Archives that are not obviously related to Crippen e.g. Treasury papers.

Also, I have made use of other online Digitised Archives which, thanks to the Internet, have generally only become available within the last 7 years or so. The archives of The Times (of London) and the New York Times have also been particularly useful together with the online Family History resources provided by Ancestry.com and findmypast.com.

Otherwise, I have largely ignored the outpourings of the popular press because of its fondness for spicing up stories or, as in the case of John Bull, complete fabrications.

What did surprise me was how many people went out of their way to help the Police in their enquiries - even before a Reward had been offered.

Description

Details of Ethel Le Neve's systematic emptying of Belle Elmore's Post Office Savings Account from 5th April to 17th June 1910.

£196.11.4 was taken in 8 withdrawals.

Details of Crippen's engagement to Ethel Le Neve on 14 August 1909 - while his wife was still in the Land of the Living - and their subsequent 'marriage' on 12 March 1910.

An appreciation of the Crippens' finances which, in my opinion, were an important factor in Crippen's decision to murder his wife. I have also introduced the Probate Records which, inter alia, show how badly their Estates had been affected by the collapse of the Charing Cross Bank, whose forthcoming failure was first signalled on the 18 October 1910 - the very same day that a member of staff was testifying at Crippen's Trial.

However, I have certainly not been able to read everything and, in all probability, there is more interesting material just waiting to be discovered and, if you are a lucky one, do please let me know.
